Day 1 of 5 Days Masai Mara Lake Nakuru Amboseli Low Cost Five Day Camping Safari
Our driver will pick you up at the Nairobi hotel where you are staying at 8:30am. You start your drive northwestwards towards the Great Rift Valley. The driver will make a scheduled stop over at the Great Rift Valley and you can look into what remained of the earth’s tectonic forces attempt to split African continent into two halves. This is a highly volcanic region with mountain and alkaline lakes spotting the floor of the great rift. Some of the mountains and lakes you will see in this tour including lake Nakuru and lake Naivasha and the Mt Suswa and Mt Longonot.
Drive into the valley floor and up on the western escarpment towards the Mau hills and descend into the Masai mara plains and Loita hills. The drive is rough and takes 5hrs from Nairobi. The road is now under construction however and it’s expected the ride will be much smoother in a few months to come.
You will get to Masai mara and check into your budget low-cost tented camp like Lenchada tourist camp, Masai Manyatta camp, mara Sidai cheaper tented camp, flamingo camp, acacia budget camp among others. Enjoy a lunch and an afternoon game drive till dusk and return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 of 5 Days Masai Mara –Nakuru – Amboseli Low Cost Five Day Camping Safari
Your day 2 will start early with a buffet breakfast by 6:00am. This day is your longest day as you have a full day long game drive in Masai mara. It is on this day that you will see everything there is to see in the Masai mara. You leave camp after breakfast for the mara river which the epicenter of the mara river wildebeest river crossing stampede. It is here that most wildebeests will cross the river and hundreds others will lose their life to drowning, crocodile attacks and predator attacks.
You will get to the river and take a vantage point on the bank to watch the hundreds of wildebeests make their way across the raging and flooded river mara. Many wildebeests make a leap in the air and crash into the water with a huge splash which makes the whole crossing sound like tens of waterfalls. The animals will bleat out of fear of the crocodiles in the river, other will jump on the backs of others breaking their spines while others will choose a sheer vertical cliff as their exit from the river. Many die at this crossing.
You will watch the dramatic river crossing for hours and enjoy your lunch right at the river as you watch the once in a lifetime event. It is not recommended to blink an eye as that’s all it takes for a moment to pass never to be replayed in the Masai mara. After lunch, you will continue with an evening game drive as you head out to your camp. Arrive at camp at dusk and wash off the dirt and dust in a hot shower and an evening hot buffet dinner. Enjoy some stories and make friends at the bonfire. Dinner and overnight at the budget tented camp.
Day 3 of 5 Days Masai Mara – Nakuru – Amboseli National Park 5 Day Camping Safari
You have by now crisscrossed the breadths and widths of the mara and seen the largest assortment of animals in a single area. Masai mara is home to over 3 million animals and the largest concentration of big cats than anywhere else in the world. Masai mara is home to hundreds of lions in prides that can go as high as 40 individuals or more.
You will wake up to a hot breakfast and a morning game drive in Masai mara game reserve to see the last few animals you may not have seen. Look out for the elusive ones like black rhinos, leopards and others. Return to the tented camp to check out at 10am and depart for Lake Nakuru national park game drive safari tour. Arrive in Nakuru town and check into a mid budget clean hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 of 5 Days Masai Mara –Nakuru – Amboseli Safari Tours
On your fourth day, you start off from the hotel at 6:00am for a game drive in the lake Nakuru national park. The lake Nakuru national park is a 177sq km park and can be covered in 4 hours of game drive. The park is the world biggest bird spectacle from the more than 2 million flamingos that frequent its shores feeding on blue green algae which gives them their characteristic pink colour. There are over 600 species of other birds in lake Nakuru.
Lake Nakuru game drive is popular for easy sightings of black and white rhinos as well as tree climbing lions and leopards walking alongside your vehicle. The park is also home to the endangered Rothschild giraffes and the rock pythons and a rare kind of antelope called the klipspringer that inhabits rock cliffs.
The park is also home to the largest forest of the rare Euphorbia candelabrum which looks like an inverted chandelier. The park is also known for its huge buffalos that love to frolic around the water edges and swim in the mudbaths.
Enjoy the game drive and depart the park at 10:00am for an early lunch at the Mai Mahiu junction and a short leg stretch break. After lunch continue to Nairobi and on towards Amboseli with a stop-over at Emali to for bathroom breaks and stretching.
Arrive in Amboseli at 5:00pm and check into your tented camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 of your 5 Day Masai Mara –Nakuru – Amboseli Budget Camping Safari Tours
You will arise early to the most magnificent views of Mt Kilimanjaro Peak with its snow covered bald top. Start a game drive after breakfast for the whole morning until 1:00pm. Look out for the hundreds of elephants that roam this park.
The lions are also viewed although they are fewer than the Masai mara lions and more difficult to find. Look out also for the cheetahs and the hundreds of buffalo, hyena, giraffes, gazelles, wildebeests, zebra, leopards, jackals and many more animals.
Visit the observation hill and watch the whole of Amboseli from a vantage point and a better view of Kilimanjaro standing at 5199m above sea level. Down below is a large pool of ice cold water from the ice caps of Kilimanjaro and hundreds of hippos swimming in the pool.
Elephants are also found everywhere and they love swimming in the cool clear waters as well. The baboons are always at their naughty selves. Chatting and doing all manner of things when they are not busy plotting to snatch your lunch or purse.
Return to the tented camp at 1:00 pm for your lunch and departure for Nairobi arriving at 5:00 pm and check into your Nairobi hotel. That marks the end of your 5 days masai mara- Nakuru- Amboseli budget tented camp safari tour package.
