Day 1 of 8 Days Masai Mara Family Safari Tour in Kenya
Having spent a night in Nairobi to relax from the long haul jetlag, you are fresh to start the safari on the next morning. The tour starts when our driver guide picks you up after breakfast at 8:30am to start the 5 hr drive to Masai mara. The road to Masai mara passes through the central highlands and dips into the floor of the Great Rift Valley where you can see the scars of what remained when the earth forces tried to split African continent into two parts.
You will arrive in Masai mara at 1:00pm and check into your lodge like Keekorok, Sopa lodge, Serena mara lodge, mara Sarova lodge, Simba lodge, Mpata lodge, mara luxury lodge among others or in a budget tented camp like Lenchada camp, mara Sidai camp, M Manyatta camp, among others.
Go on an afternoon game drive until dusk to see the wonderful and plentiful of Masai mara wildlife. The Masai mara has thousands upon thousands of animals including the big cats and the big browsers and small grazers. Lions are by the hundreds in Masai mara and you seem to see some lions at every corner you take.

Day 2 of 8 Days Masai Mara Family Safari in Kenya
The second day in Masai mara offers the longest game drive as you will only return back to camp in the late evening after a full day’s game watching adventure. You will start out at 8:30am with picnic lunch boxes and drive to the mara river to watch the hippos and crocodiles in the water. If it’s in the wildebeest migration season, then you will see one of the most dramatic and adrenaline filled moments of Masai mara when thousands upon thousands cross the mara river in shocking stampede.
Watch the action at the mara river for the whole morning and enjoy a lunch here. Afternoon will be spent doing a game drive in the park until dusk when you return to the camp for dinner and overnight. Day 3 of 8 Days Masai Mara Kenyan Family Vacation Safari
This day you will wake up to the sound of birds and a bright sun in the Masai mara. This is your last day in Masai mara and you have one last game drive this morning to see what you may have not found yet. The day starts after breakfast when you go for the game drive in the park. You will see as many of the animals and birds in the morning sun as the mara slowly but surely wakes up to the action of this renowned world theatre of the wild.
After game drive, return to camp or lodge to check out and depart at 9:30am for Lake Naivasha on the rift valley floor. You will arrive at 1:00pm and check into the lodges or camps here. Enjoy a buffet lunch by the lake side as you watch the birds and the simmering water against the sun. The cool breeze wafts through the lodge and you catch a glimpse of a lone hippo in the reeds beyond the shores.
Go on an afternoon boat ride trip and a walking safari on the crescent island to view wildebeests, giraffes, gazelles and warthogs on the island. This is a very refreshing walk in the island and your driver will meet up with you at the gate for pick up. Watch the many birds in the lake and island as well.
Dinner and overnight at the Lake Naivasha family lodge or Lake Naivasha family camp.
Day 4 of 8 Days Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration Family Safari Tour – Lake Nakuru National Park
On this morning, you will go on a short visit to the crater-lake to see the birds paradise up on the hills and enjoy the views here. The view of this lake is just out of this world. See the birds in this rich volcanic crater-lake and later depart for Nakuru arriving in time for lunch.
Check into the Nakuru lodge, Sopa Nakuru lodge, Sarova lion hill Nakuru or the KWS Bandas of campsite. After lunch relax in a siesta or swim in the pool to wash off the dirt. Evening game drive starts at 4:00pm and you will enjoy the views of flamingos by the lake, the rhinos by the side of your game tracks and the lions that just keep away from tree tops. Nakuru is an amazingly beautiful park to see as many birds and other animals as possible.

Day 5 of 8 Days Masai Mara Migration Family Safari – Aberdare
It’s time to go to the central and northern regions of Kenya and see a different landscape and different animals and people. You will start off from Lake Nakuru after a morning game drive and an early breakfast for Aberdare national park. Aberdare national park is a mountain park which is right opposite the Mt Kenya national park.
The Aberdare is a dense rain forest national park in Kenya and game drives are optional although not as rich as the Masai mara. The experience here is different as you will get to stay in a tree lodge and watch the animals at a water hole all night.
You will first get to Nyeri town and have lunch at the Outspans hotel and later transfer to the treetops lodge where Queen Elizabeth assumed her thrown after learning of her father’s death while on vacation here. The treetops hotel totally stands on stilts and for that matter you will leave the bulk of your luggage at the base hotel in Nyeri and carry just what you need for a 1 night stay here. Another lodge in Aberdare is the ark, which also has its base hotel for guests have lunch and leave their luggage, at the Aberdare country club.
Day 6 of 8 Days Family Vacation in Kenya – Samburu National Reserve
After watching animals all night at the water hole in the Aberdare Kenya tree lodges, you will depart after breakfast for Nyeri and your driver will be load up your luggage and depart for Samburu national reserve.
The drive is now on large wide plains with Mount Kenya on your right. In clear skies, the peaks can be seen very clearly. You will cross the equator with an optional stop over if interested in taking some pictures at the sign post. Drop down into the northern Kenya, a semi –arid land of deep contrasts and some awe inspiring landscapes and unique animals. What the Kenyan north lacks in large numbers of animals is well compensated for by the areas unique and captivating landscape.
Arrive at the Samburu national reserve lodge and check into the hotel for lunch. You will now rest for some siesta after lunch before an evening game drive at 4.00pm. Samburu reserve is one amazing wonder with dry scrub land plains stretching for miles on end. The only relief to this dry and scrub monotony is the green riverine vegetation of the Ewaso Ngiro river that winds like a snake across the plains. River Ewaso Ngiro is the lifeline of the Samburu ecosystem and it is here that you will find all the animals’ at least once a day for a drink always wary of the hidden Nile crocodiles in the water.
The Samburu plain and dry landscape is also interspersed by small hills and distant Blue Mountains that make such drama on the terrain. The animals of Samburu are also unique to this area like the blue necked ostrich, the reticulated giraffe with its majestic patterns on its skin, the Beisa Oryx with its long horns, the gerenuk with its giraffe like neck and the endangered Grevy’s zebra with its horse like appearance and large wide ears.
Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge or campsite by the river Ewaso ngiro.
Day 7 of 8 Days Family Safari in Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve
Your next day is a full day game drive in both the Samburu and Shaba national parks. Here you will do game drive and viewing by the Ewaso river and cross over to the Shaba national reserve for a fill of the grandest land formations that will leave you truly inspired.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Shaba national park as you continue with your game viewing and afternoon game drive by the Ewaso Ngiro River watching the elephants and buffalos, lions, leopards, hippos and many more animals as they wallow and swim in the waters.
Later you will return back to your lodge or campsite for a well deserved dinner and campfire stories before retiring for the night.
Day 8 of Nairobi Family Safari in Kenya
This is your last day on safari and after breakfast, you will go on an early game viewing drive by the river at 6:00am to see more of the animals early in the morning. Make sure to look out for the elusive animals that you may have missed out on the previous 2 days.
You will return to the lodge after the game drive and check out at 8:00am. Start your drive back to Nairobi and drop off at your Nairobi hotel in time for lunch and relaxation.
