Day 1: Masai Mara
This is your first day of safari in Kenya and the driver will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel. The tour starts with a drive North West of Nairobi and into the great rift valley with a scheduled stop at the great rift valley escarpment. You can see the magnificent floor of the Great Rift Valley below with Mountain Suswa and Longonot and the lake Naivasha to the North West. The steam pillars of the Olkaria geothermal hotsprings and geysers at a distance.
Drive up the western escarpment and drop into the Masai mara plains checking into your budget tented camp for lunch at 1:00pm. You will relax after the lunch with a siesta and go for an evening game drive at 1600hrs until dusk. The Masai mara is a game drive paradise like no other in the world. The Masai mara game reserve is a 1510sq km which is an extension of the larger Serengeti game reserve in Tanzania.
It’s the only place where you have over 3 million animals in plains undulating savannahs uninterrupted with any trees or forests making a game drive here a lifetime experience. It’s only in the Masai mara that you have the highest concentration of big cats in one place including lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas.
The Masai mara is however widely known for hosting the greatest wildlife migration in the world involving 2 million wildebeests, zebras and gazelles in a match across 3000km of a circular route in search of green pasture. The Masai mara wildebeest migration takes place in the months of July and October. The Masai mara game reserve is usually very busy in this month since they correspond with summer in Europe and the Americas.

Day 2: Masai Mara
You will spend the whole day doing a day long game drive looking out for all the big five animals including the lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards and rhinos. You will go to the mara river to see the hippos and crocodiles in the water including the wildebeest river crossing if the season is right.
Mara river is a scenic river with hundreds of hippos and crocodiles and there is never a dull moment as wildlife come to drink the water. The crocodiles are always on a feeding spree while the hippos, well the hippos are always lazing about in the water grunting.
Enjoy your picnic lunch by the river and later go on to an afternoon game drive across the plains until late afternoon when you saunter back to camp exhausted but with a camera full of great pictures. Dinner and overnight at the Masai mara budget tented camp.
Day 3: Masai Mara –Lake Nakuru
This is your last day in Masai mara and you will dash for a morning game drive after breakfast until 1000hrs. You will be looking for all the animals you may have missed in Masai mara. A morning game drive is always very interesting and you are in luck to catch a cheetah chase or a lion hunt that early.
After your game drive, you will return to the camp for check out and depart Masai mara for Lake Nakuru national park. You will have an enroute lunch at Narok and arrive in Nakuru late evening to check into a budget hotel in Nakuru town and relax or probably enjoy a walk around the town. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Nakuru Park – Mt Kenya
On this day you will wake up early and go on a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru national park. Lake Nakuru is a 177 Sqkm national park which is fully fenced off and is world known as the biggest bird spectacle due to its over 2 million flamingos. There are also more than 600 bird species in Lake Nakuru national park and it was established as a bird sanctuary. Lake Nakuru is an important bird area as well as a Ramsar site which means its an important wetland.
Nakuru national park has many animals including rhinos, leopards, lions, hippos, buffalos, baboons, hyenas, jackals, zebras, giraffes, cheetahs and many others. You will continue with your game drive until 1200hrs when you exit the park for a drive to Mt Kenya with a lunch at Nakuru town. Proceed on to Mt Kenya arriving at 1600hrs.
Check into Mt Kenya Lodge and enjoy dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Mt Kenya –Nairobi.
Wake up to the mountain air and enjoy a breakfast. Depart the hotel at 8:00am to go and climb Mt Kenya. You will start your climb from Old Moses or the met station depending on whether you are using the Sirimon or the Naro Moru gate respectively. You will climb for about 1500m up to 4,000m when you get out of the rain forest and reach the moorland or bog region.
Here the views of the peaks Lenana, Batian and Nelion are great and you can take as many pictures as you want. You will also most likely see animals as you climb including elephants, rhinos, buffalos, giant forest hogs and many others. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the moorland and start your trek back to the gate.
You will exit the Mt Kenya national park at 3:00pm and check out of your hotel. Start your drive back to Nairobi arriving at 6:00pm and drop off in your Nairobi hotel.
